WEEK 207---2022 Most Memorable Beer & Mead List --by CT ( KL) Part 2/2

 

The final part of my list for last year is mainly about stouts, mead & a barley wine or two--thanks to sharing sessions here in KL--though limited in number of sessions but it was good enough beer & mead quality wise.

刚过去的2022从个人啤酒角度来说是不错的一年,在没有任何国外啤酒旅行,和几位特定本地啤迷瓶子分享会也为数不多情况下还是有分享到一些高水平佳酿,这次最有印象酒单以黑啤,蜜酒,农场风格啤酒以及天然发酵酸啤为主,缺乏啤酒花类型作品除了个人口味选择因素影响之外也因为去年从美国直送啤酒花作品数量有限喝太少所致。

先来看看去年喝到的最有印象黑啤和蜜酒都有哪些:-

Side Project
Thanks to the group guys--was able to taste some nice Side Project stouts last year including both 2021 & 2022 version of Beer Barrel Time(BBT), For Phil( a tribute brew for Perennial brewer --where Side Project initially started)--also Flambe, Coconut Vibes & Achromatic Vibes from Shared( very much a sub brand of Side Porject)--obviously they are all stouts but there are differences in taste profile and nuances.
去年有幸在本地通过分享会喝到这家顶级黑啤高手酿坊几款作品,包括备受啤迷关注的BBT(Beer Barrel Time) 20212022版本,致敬起始酿坊Perennial 酿酒师的For Phil,以及旗下副品牌Shared Flambe, Coconut VibesArhomatic Vibes,虽都是黑啤但各有不同风味层次表现,比如同是BBT的不同年份作品就有明显区别,虽然一起品味的啤迷朋友都比较倾向21年版本,但两者高低差异很小,都是会让人自动慢酢细品的大黑啤作品
in short:-
For Phil is more  cinnamon forward (in a balance way) while also showing the dark chocolate-coconut & barrel influences.
巧克力椰子和木桶承托的主要风味是肉桂。
BBT 21 is very dark chocolate & bourbon barrel centric while BBT 22 has this smokey burned barrel flavours--both are thick with chocolate-coffee-dark fruits-vanilla notes.
21年更多是黑巧克力和波本酒桶风味--22年则有烟熏和木桶焦味--两者都充满巧克力咖啡黑色果实香草。
Flambe is more of a chcolate banana stout--Coconut Vibes was straight up caramelized Gula Melaka & coconut--Achromatic Vibes is vanilla forward & dark chocolate coconut.
Flambe是香蕉巧克力-Coconut Vibes是焦糖椰香-Achromatic Vibes香草黑巧克力。

Weldwerks
Had a few different variants of Weldwerks last year--known for it's really in your face thick and bold body--the 2 which really stood out was Medianoche Cookies & Cream and Medianoche Reserve.--the former just as the beer name suggested it's a thick liquid form of  cream cookies--while the latter was a bomb of a liquid chocolate coconut cake.
以酒体厚重粘稠口感浓郁甜点黑啤(pastry stouts)盛名在外的高手酿坊,这次喝到为数不多的几款作品中以Medianoche Cookies & CreamMedianoche Reserve 最让人留下印象。两者都是酿坊一贯作风的厚重浓郁,前者顾名思义就是想把酒酿成像是奶油饼干那样的甜点黑啤,后者则是充满椰香巧克力风味的液体蛋糕,虽然风味表现各异但同样是让人想要慢慢喝,等待回温观察风味呈现是不是变得更有佳的黑啤。

Horus Aged Ales
Honestly been finding it a little dissapointiing so far as in i have yet to taste a really mind blowing one from this brewery--had a few different variants last year and the only one which hits the right notes personally was Bonnelli's Distraction--full of carzmelized Gula Melaka - coconut- hazelnuts with coffee though it could have been better with a thicker body.
身为这家甜点黑啤酿坊为数有限的美国以外会员,每个年度能买到喝到的作品可以有十多款,不过有点遗憾的是,虽然酿坊一直被不少啤迷追捧,但个人来说至今仍没有喝到一款让味蕾惊艳的作品,以去年喝到几款作品来说,Bonnelli's Distraction 是唯一让人留下印象的,类似马六甲椰糖的风味加上烤椰香榛子还有咖啡风味,是很不错的作品,要挑剔的话可能是酒体还稍微有点不是那么浓郁厚重。

Schramm's
There is no doubt whatsoever the level of tasty mead this mead maker can produce--Bramble was definitely one of the very best i have had from them by far--made with 4 different berries---it was jammy-full of fruity honey goodness-never cloying or overly sweet or monotonous--everything is just perfectly in harmony.
去年喝到一些不同酿坊蜜酒作品中,这家顶级酿坊的Bramble 是毫无疑问的上乘之作,使用四种不同莓果(黑莓,红梅,覆盆子和波森莓),一开瓶入杯就已是满满果香,入口是液态蜂蜜果酱般香甜浓郁的讨喜但完全没有让人觉得腻口感觉,相反的是让人自动放慢步伐想慢喝细品。

Superstition
Last year was a first for KL where some of us here celebrated with Arizona and participating cities in other parts of the world for Berry White Day 2022--but before that one of the memorable one i had much earlier last year was a collab brew with Moksa--was kinda expecting Ninth Mandala to have big stouts barrel influence but it was not like that but rather skewed towards a sweet & tart White Series-ish brew.  Another which obviously caught the attention was the Cherry White--a new addition to the White Series last year--a well balance one with notes of cherries white chocolate and honey--a worthy addition to the existing 4.
也是来自美国的顶级蜜酒酿坊,去年少有的喝到好几款不同作品,除了已经喝过好几次的招牌作品WHITE SERIES(  白巧克力莓果系列),年中喝到一款和美国黑啤高手酿坊Moksa合作的Ninth Mandala就让人留下印象,虽然喝起来不是预想中那种把蜜酒放入黑啤旧桶浸泡後吸收黑啤风味的作品而是更接近个人比较熟悉的白色系列风味,但无可否认还是一款喝起来让人开心的佳酿。而说到白色系列,去年新增的樱桃版本Cherry White是另一款让人记忆犹新的好喝蜜酒,没有过甜或让樱桃抢占风味问题,樱桃蜂蜜白巧克力融洽的结合成一款原有四款莓果之外值得蜜酒迷关注的新增款。

ending note:-
Had the double oaked variant of the famous Anchorage barley wine-- A deal with the Devil--sweet-caramel-bourbon barrel heavy--not the most impressive barley wine i have had.

One of the more not so perfect moments of last year was having to miss out some mead--the likes of second city- standard--and of course Pips--due to timing issue9 was recovering from op and needed to go on prohibition for weeks)

小结

去年喝到值得一提的还有阿拉斯加酿坊Anchorage的盛名作品 A Deal with The Devil (double oaked),是酿坊众多同名作品中其一,以大麦酒风味呈现来说只是中上,肯定不是个人喝过最有印象的大麦酒。

另外也有因为一些情况所以没能喝到的好酒,比如错过了比如second city- standard美国蜜酒作坊作品--其中以顶级作坊Pips的几款错过作品最让人扼腕。

WEEK 206---2022 Most Memorable Beer List---by CT (KL) PART 1/2

 
As with previous list--my 2022 list been divided into 2 parts--one with mainly stouts & mead--another with styles such as saison, lambic & more--This one if going by newspaper column sequences should be part 2 but since both are my list anyway so  here we go....
一如之前, 去年的个人最有印象酒单按不同酒类分开写,一篇主要是黑啤/蜜酒, 另一篇则是以农场风格啤酒/天然发酵酸啤类型为主。要依照报章专栏先后序的话这篇应该是续篇,不过都是个人酒单也无所谓先後了。。。
Personally, saison & lambic are 2 styles very much my favourites--hence no surprises why this list is basically dominated by these 2 styles:-
1)Antidoot L'IIIumine Gorsenkriek
Had a few Antidoot last year--this one obviously stood out with it's very distinctive nose and flavours performance--aged in Bordeaux wine barrel with tart cherries for 14 months--it was lovely--nothing overly sour--quite jammy with some sweetness coming through the balance sour.
比利时农场小作坊的水果酸啤,采用法国波尔多葡萄酒旧木桶并加入本土采摘酸樱桃浸泡陈放十四个月後才装瓶,是去年喝过这家几款不同风味作品中最让人留下印象的,微酸带点果酱甜的樱桃韵味无论气息或口感都很能带来味蕾享受.

2) Bokke Framboos Kriek Tonka
Cracked 2 Bokke last year--the other one was a Zomerhof(with peaches-cherries-wine grapes)--this one is a mix of 3 different variants of rapsberries--from nose to balance of sourness to lambic funk & pleasing rapsberry influence combined with the vanilla-ish slightly sweet flavours of Tonka bean on both nose and palate--this one would edge out Zomerhof if i can only pick one from the 2.
个人所剩不多的Bokke作品中去年分享会开喝了两支加入不同水果提味的作品,其中Zomerhof以好几个不同品种酸樱桃葡萄桃子为提味水果,这款则是覆盆子混合东加豆的果酸作品,果酸霉香覆盆子香甜气息都很出色,二选一的话感觉这款风味呈现会更胜一筹。

3) Bofkont Dancing in the Moonlight
A very apricot forward lambic though this is a blend using 3 different fruits(apricots-peaches-riesling grapes)--quite sour especially when newly poured but got better as the beer gets warmer--not as balance but if you like apricots flavours then this one is quite nice.
比利时近几年冒起的天然发酵酸啤小作坊,分享会上喝到的这款混合了三个不同年份酸啤酒并加入杏子桃子和白葡萄增加风味,喝起来是杏果香为主导的气息风味,酸度稍强不够平衡不过回温稍久之後整体感觉变得较柔和。

4) Casey Velvet
The one thing with American sour that some geeks keep saying about is how in your face puckering at times American made sours can be--of course this is not to say there is no nice 7 balance sour beers from the land reknown for big stouts and bold/hoppy/juicy ipas--This one is a collab brew with Side Project--apricots heavy light sour beer--for an American sour beer this is rather nice with nice aroma from the fruits--sourness is medium--very drinkable one. 
美国酸啤时不时展现的横冲直撞酸度风味表现常让人诟病,因为美好的酸啤就算做不到均衡有度也绝不能只是单调的一味酸死人不赔命,Casey作坊这款大手加入杏果的作品(每加仑5磅杏子)是和Side Project合酿,口感闻香带酸充满果香但没有过酸弊病,是不错的一款。

5)Hill Farmstead Dorothy Southern Hemisphere
This is basically still very much a farmhouse ale though the idea is to experiment with hops from the southern most ( and northern most) of the planet--the added hops did not jump to the front of queue and dominated all the way but rather just stayed at the background quietly--it's very much still an elegant/layered/ easy drinking well water brew with light sourness note. Had Northern version too last year--also a really nice one.
Vermont农场酿坊的啤酒花调试风味作品,以常态款Dorothy 为基酒分别加入来自地球南端和北端的啤酒花酿成的作品,三款南半球不同啤酒花的出现并没有喧宾夺主而只是铺佐,酒还是一贯优雅的微果酸回甘易喝有层次农场啤酒风格。去年也喝了北半球酒花版本--同样是美味易喝的作品。

 

6) Tommie Sjef Kriek
A kriek at times could be rather sour or one dimensional if not well made--this blend of 1 & 2 year old lambic soak in sour cherries is burst with notes of cherries-almond-cinnamon as well some rose like floral nose and flavours--not really complex or multi layered but comfortable one.
荷兰酸啤作坊的酸樱桃啤酒,将一年和两年酸啤勾兑加入酸樱桃浸泡桶陈一年半提味,酸中带有明显的樱桃杏仁和些许肉桂以及类似玫瑰花香风味,口感更多是果肉香而不是果皮所以不会有涩感,不算层次多变但足够舒适。

 

SPECIAL Mentioning:-
7) Cantillon Drogone
had this during a share--the first thought upon sipping was this could be a miss rather than hit because perhaps a few more months of aging would make this one taste better than it did.
能在本地喝到比利时顶级酸啤酿坊的Cantillon Drogone是值得开心的事,不过这款作品喝起来让人感觉喝早了,再收藏久些风味表现应该会更好。

9) Bazan Hibiscus Cider
definitely a pleasant surprise--brought back from Vietnam by fellow geek friend from #KLtastinggroup--what was nice about this easy drinking one is the ginger like nose and flavours coming through--and did not just fade away in seconds after pour as it gets warmer.
越南酿坊Bazan Hibiscus Cider是去年的意外惊喜,以木槿(大红花)入味的苹果酒,闻香口感都有类似姜的风味但不呛而是适当的提升了酒的味道层次,易喝但不单调。

10) Antidoot Analogia II (appel/ Gewurztraminer)
A barrel aged cider--wild fermented with apples--don't sound very complex or promising? well the performance of this cider was rather the opposite--easy drinking yes but never dull.
听起来很简单的桶陈苹果酒,不过喝起来就不是那么简单,是易喝的但一点也不单调。

11) Side Project Fermier
A nice saison--soft-lemony but not overly sour--quite balance for my liking--nice easy drinking one.
带有微酸柠檬气息的均衡易喝农场风格啤酒, 不是什么让人惊艳的作品但“可喝度" 相当高。

12) Cantillon Saint Lamvinus
Had this lambic quite a many times already--but this recent batch bottle cracked last year was very very nice--the fruits was obvious--funk and sourness was at very pleasing level--only issue is how to get more....
这款不同年份批次的喝过一些, 这支一开喝就觉得惊喜,果酸香和天然发酵带出的霉香都很出色,整体均衡美味。

13) Root & Branch Abysmal Thoughts
the only ipa-neipa in the list--it's very hard to get very fresh high quality American ipas here in KL since there's basically no supply in the retail market--getting own beer mail in is the only way but that's also not as easy as it maybe if compare to places like Hong Kong.
This one is quite my preference of neipa since it's more towards mellow and subtle side rather than in your face level of thick juicy hoppy brew.
酒单中唯一的啤酒花类型啤酒,主要是因为在本地要喝到新鲜的美国顶级酿坊印度淡啤或类果汁印度淡啤基本只能是靠自己从美国带进来,所以能喝到机会不多。这家酿坊的作品风格比较接近个人口味--不过于浓郁腻口是基本要求。

2022 Most Memorable Beer List----by NEIL (Tokyo)

2022 is already in the past---as a tradition of this blog there will be a list looking back the past year by geek friends & myself on some the memorable ones(and probably some mead too)--a sort of conclusion to a year of beer finding.

一年很快过去--进入新一年--依照惯例会邀请海外其他城市啤迷朋友聊聊过去一年喝到留下较深刻印象的啤酒(也可能会有蜜酒)--这次先开单的依旧是来自东京的英国啤迷朋友NEIL--他也是写了好多年东京以及周边地区日本在地啤酒圈的部落客--有兴趣的朋友可以到他的网站看看关注。

2022 has been another year where for the most part I haven’t been able to travel outside of Japan. Borders have opened and travel has become possible again, but as far as I’m concerned, just because something is possible, it doesn’t mean it’s a good idea. I still like to drink local if possible, so once again most of my choices are Japanese beers. I’ve put them in groups that I feel make sense, so hopefully you will too. In 2022 Tokyo Beer Drinker went from being a blog to a proper website and consequently I slightly stepped up the activity a bit and went to some new places. I also made a new year’s resolution to have a Japanese craft beer in every ward of Tokyo which resulted in some interesting finds, one of which has made it onto this list.
2022是没能到处去旅行的一年,虽然日本开放了国境,但个人来说还是没有选择出去而是留在日本喝在地酿造啤酒,去年“东京啤酒人”也从部落客转变为网站https://tokyobeerdrinker.com/,这也让NEIL更有动力想喝遍东京每个区,去年酒单中就有新发现的。


Kyoto Brewing - Pilgrim’s Respite series (Sosei, Kodama, Barrel Aged, Beginning, Katsumei)
It’s been a bit of weird year for Kyoto Brewing. I haven’t been blown away by many of their beers and most of the beers in one of their series were pretty average for me. However, they still are making great saisons and I really enjoyed all of the variations in their Pilgrim’s Respite series which were really great. I think as you go through my list you’ll see that there are quite a few saisons. It’s certainly one of the first things I look for on a beer menu.
京都酿造--古道をゆく 甦生-木霊-木樽熟成-始動-活命
过去一年有点奇怪,这家酿坊许多作品并没有让人感觉深刻,很多时候甚至感觉平庸,还好古道系列的农场风格啤酒都很不错,这是个人口味选择,其实每次到一个酒吧最先寻找的就是SAISON,所以这次酒单免不了会有好一些这一类型风格啤酒。

Brewccoly - Pastoral Saison, Bottom Plower, Shades Of Brown, Tsumoru, Sunday’s Sigh
The Akita based brewery Brewccoly’s beer started coming to Tokyo a bit more often in 2022 which was great for me. Much like with Kyoto, I’m not so sure about their other beers, but I really like their saisons. I guess I just really like saisons.
秋田县男鹿市的这家小酿坊作品自去年开始比较常能在东京找到,就像上述的京都酿坊那样,个人并不是很确定这家的其他作品水平,不过对上述的几款农场风格啤酒就很喜欢,看来也可能就纯粹是因为个人喜好关系。

Zakkoku - Barrel Of Saison
I realise this is getting a bit tedious. Another brewery, another saison. Zakkoku make some really nice beers and their tap takeover at Gremlin was a great event. The beer they made for that event ‘Gremlin Lager’ was also really good, but the highlight of the day and the highlight of my Zakkoku year was Barrel Of Saison, which unsurprisingly was a barrel aged saison.
来自崎玉县的麦雑穀工房为东京的“精灵”酒吧活动酿造了以酒吧名称为酒名的皮尔淡啤,不过当天最让NEIL喜欢的还是农场风格啤酒。

Passific - Sooy
I’m usually slightly suspicious of new breweries with lots of hype and apparently lots of money and the first few Passific beers I had were nice but not mind-blowing. When I went to their tap takeover at Craftrock in Tokyo, (mainly to tick off the Chuo ward of Tokyo for my resolution but also to give Passific a real try), I really loved Sooy. It’s a saison, (surprise surprise), with lemongrass and rice, which to be honest didn’t sound like it would be amazing, but was. I was delighted to find it at Derailleur’s beer truck when I was at an away game at Cerezo Osaka. It was also ridiculously cheap for some reason, so I had quite a few, and that was a good thing because the game was awful.
来自神奈川的这家酿坊是近期备受瞩目的后起之秀,而NEIL对快速冒起备受关注的新酿坊会保持一定怀疑态度--直到去了东京都内一家酒吧的活动上喝到这款使用香茅和米的农场风格啤酒後另眼相看,之后去大阪支持客场作战的球队时也喝到同款啤酒,感觉更好一些(因为当时球赛输掉了)。

Let’s Beer Works - Into The Mix
The final saison in this list and another place that had been on my list of places to visit for a while but which I only got round to going to for my new year’s resolution, (Kita-ku). Into The Mix was the first beer I tried there and was an amazing start. Sadly it was all downhill from there, which sounds like the other beers weren’t good, but they were. Their fruited sour IPAs were also very nice. It’s not exactly an easy place to get to and their opening hours are very limited so it’s not somewhere I’d suggest everyone should visit, but I’d definitely recommend looking out for their beers.
位于東京都北区戸島コーポ,位置来说不是很便利易去的酒吧,而且营业时间也不是很固定,NEIL本着想喝遍全东京都的本意找到了这家,一开始就喝了这款农场风格啤酒,遗憾的是好像之后喝到的就开始走下坡了,听起来好像是说酒都不行,但其实也不是,记得有一款果酸印度淡啤很不错。因为位置问题或许不建议一定到访但有机会是要找这家的酒喝一些。

Hop Kotan - Oudou Shinkou, Wagamama Bouzu, Kuro Ni Someru
Hop Kotan has always been a brewery that I slightly overlooked. In 2021 we couldn’t go to the away game in Sapporo due to them not allowing away fans, so 2022 was the first visit we’ve made there since the Hop Kotan Sapporo taproom opened. It was a real highlight and was so good that we went both the day before the game and went back after the game too. Great beer, great food and great prices. Oudou Shinkou was a great Dortmunder, Wagamama Bouzo a great double IPA and Kuro Ni Someru a great Belgian Zwart, which I am not sure is a style, and maybe just means black in Flemish, but was basically something like the old Zwet.be that Drie Fonteinen used to make. All lovely stuff!
忽布古丹酿造是北海道的酿坊, 2021年因为不能客场观赛所以一直等到去年去北海道观看球赛时才终于到访札幌市区新开的酿坊品饮室, 无论是啤酒还是食物或是价格都很令人满意. 所以比
赛前去了, 看完球赛之后还去.
印象深刻的三款啤酒中, "王道進行"是德国多特蒙德浅啤, "我儘坊主"是双倍印度淡啤, “黒に染ろ”则是依据比利时旧式草本啤酒酿造作品,让人想起三泉酿坊(Drie Fonteinen)旧时作品。


Folkways - #64
This is another small Tokyo brewery in an out of the way location with limited opening hours. I didn’t visit it as part of my new year’s resolution but I did go there for only the second time this year. It’s quite close to the modern art museum so I always pair the two. All of their beers are numbered rather than named, so it’s a bit difficult to remember which ones are the best, but I guess that’s what Untappd is for. And I guess they probably don’t make the same beer twice either, but every time I’ve been there, all of them have been good. In case you were wondering, #64 was a blueberry sour. It was very nice.
東京都江东区平野的小酿坊/品饮室(清澄白河附近), 营业时间有限, 所以只是去了第二次, 啤酒都是以号码为代表, 没有酒名, 而且感觉啤酒都只是一次过酿造不重复, 喝过的作品都很不错, 好奇的话, #64是蓝莓酸啤, 非常好喝.

Minoh - Baton No. 002
Minoh have started a series of special beers under the Baton name. I think they are all foeder beers. No. 002 was a foeder pils and was delicious. It was also extremely lively, and both times I had it from a big bottle a lot of it fizzed out everywhere. I probably should have remembered and anticipated that the second time. Looking forward to trying some more of this series.
大阪箕面酿坊开始了一系列Baton为名的大型木桶过桶啤酒作品,002号是好喝的桶陈浅啤,喝了两次瓶装的作品,每次开瓶都因为酒体非常活跃丰沛而溢出,这系列让人期待可品味更多不同作品。

Godspeed - Sklepník V Oceli, Bůh Originální Ležák
The first non-Japanese beers on this list but there is a Japan connection as the brewer was brewing in Japan before starting Godspeed. Both of these beers were delicious and both were Czech Pils. It’s a shame that he’s not still in Japan making these beers and then I’d be able to drink litres of them. Even at import prices in little cans, they’re still well worth it though. Lovely stuff!
酒单中第一个不是日本在地酿造的啤酒,不过还是有日本联系因为主创酿酒师在成立这家酿坊前曾经在日本酿酒。以上两款都是美味易喝的捷克浅啤,可惜不是在地酿造不然可以一公升一公升的喝,虽那么说,以进口小罐装来说性价比还是很值得的。

Siren - Oringin Story, Wandering Lines
As I write this, I’m sitting at my parents’ place in the UK drinking Siren beers from my Siren advent calendar, visiting a different country for the first time in almost three years. The beer advent calendar thing is a lot of fun and there have been some real highlights in there. These two were the best so far. Oringin Story was a special version of their imperial stout Origin Story but with added orange zest. It was lovely! And then Wandering Lines was a Kellerbier which it seems I really like, as I think I included Baeren’s Keller last year, which was again delicious this year but I didn’t want to repeat myself.
喝着酒的时候NEIL人在英国父母家,这是三年来第一次回家,跟着酿坊的圣诞倒数日历喝不同酒是蛮有趣的,这两款是最出色的作品,Oringin Story是在原版黑啤中加入橙皮的变奏版,Wandering Lines是德式原味拉格。

Kernel - Vatted Porter 1864, Pils Lorien, IPL Galaxy
I arrived back in the UK and my Kernel delivery arrived the next day. I’ve only finished about a quarter of them so far but it seems that they’re still making great beers. The Vatted Porter is another one of those dark roasty beers with some sourness that I like so much. The Pils Lorien was the first lager I’d had from them and was great. The IPL Galaxy was the second lager I had from them and was also great. I really hope I can get to their taproom some time soon.
回到英国隔天就收到来自KERNEL的酒,虽然只是喝了大概酒箱的四分之一,感觉还是当之无愧的英国顶尖酿坊,The Vatted Porter是带有酸味的烤麦香黑色作品,The Pils Lorien是个人喝到的第一款浅啤,非常好,然后 IPL Galaxy 也是好喝的浅啤作品,希望可以尽快到访他们的酿坊品饮室。
