Welcome to the Dark Side

Black Albert

I prefer the dark side a bit more when it comes to beers(though i do enjoy some very good lighter color ones).

Over the past 2-3 years, i have had the opportunities to sample some really good dark color beers be it a stout, porter, black IPA,strong ales or Russian imperial stout.
Black Albert by De Struise of Belgium, as well as Beer Geek Brunch Weasal by Mikkeller of Denmark were two very nice dark beers tasted here in KL recently.

Black Albert, an imperial stout with ABV of 13%, however, it does not show its heavy alcohol content at all, unlike for examples Jopen Meesterstuk 2012 from Holland (which somehow is available in selected supermarket locally) although with the lower ABV of 10%, the Jopen version of Imperial Stout would immediately strike you with very strong alcohol mouth feel within the first or second sip.

The smoothness of Black Albert makes it "dangerously" very easy to drink though along the way the complexity of the beer keeps flourishing your taste bud.
Few weeks before tasting Black Albert, I was happy to know that Beer Geek Brunch Weasel is available locally, since one of my personal favorites is Beer Geek Breakfast which i have not had for quite a while, the Brunch version would be timely thirst quencher.

First sip of Beer Geek Brunch Weasel was very "Kao"( a Hokkien word meaning Thick). Indeed it's a bit like having your local cuppa Kopi O(black coffee), rich coffee aroma, but smooth on the palate, not overpowering at all at 10.9% ABV, and of course the taste does not just stop at black coffee but evolve into more of chocolate, malt, vanilla, silky milk smoothness....but yes, essentially it's still the expensive  "cat poop coffee beans"!

BGBW did not disappoint at all, in fact it is a very good "replacement" to my favorite breakfast version for now(in an ideal world, it would be nice to have both breakfast and brunch available side by side)

I always have breakfast in the morning, but i cant get hold of the beer version for a long while since the last bottle...

Time to bring back the breakfast....
